The Anointing Oil The word "anoint" literally means to smear or rub with oil. In the Old Testament, all of God's chosen servants (prophets, priests, and kings) were anointed with oil. (I Kings 19:16, Exo. 40:15, 2 Sam.2:4) The anointing oil was important because it consecrated and empowered them as servants of God.
Jesus was anointed with the oil of joy...

Jesus "The Anointed One"
The word "Christ" literally means "the Anointed One and His anointing". It is the same word that is used for "Messiah" in the Old Testament.
When Jesus began His earthly ministry, He said...
